Bak 2 Skole
Jan. 24th, 2006 06:58 pmI have to say, three days of solid meetings is probably the best way to completely strangle any enthusiasm returning teachers may have mustered over the summer holidays... :P Kiddies return on Friday, which again seems an odd choice - sandwiched between a public holiday and a weekend. I guess it's at least one more day in this freakishly short term, cruelly misshapen by the dastardly Commonwealth Games.
It's an odd time of year - a weird churning mix of anticipation, tension, irritation at bad keynote speakers, excitement at new projects, boredom at go-nowhere meetings, and the pressing need for JUST ONE MORE WEEK to get some stuff DONE before the kids come back...
Dreams:
acerbicmuffin and I are shanghaied by the Latvian Space Corps, as crew for their Mars mission. Upon landing, we discover the entire planet is some kind of giant porous fungus covered by a thin red crust. Something is aware of our presence.
2. The Zoo: their new Cyclopean enclosure. It's built to look like ancient, unspeakably alien ruins. We're inside, peering through a glass wall, like in the reptile house. On the other side is a lush jungle-scape, dominated by a single titanic elephant-like foot and treetrunk leg. The leg is immobile, the rest of the creature unseen. Suddenly, I glimpse three tiny white shapes rounding the foot and making for the nearby waterfall. The enclosure sign explains that they are flightless midget water-owls, and as we watch, they unfurl their wings and dive into the pond, swooping gracefully through the water.
